Hood 26E Runabout: C.W. Hood Yachts’ First Fully Electric Model Blends Classic New England Style with Modern Technology

C.W. Hood Yachts of Marblehead, Massachusetts has introduced the Hood 26E Runabout, the company’s first fully electric model. The new 26E combines contemporary electric propulsion with the classic lines and craftsmanship associated with New England boatbuilding. Designed by Chris Hood and David Robinson, the runabout is positioned as a premium, lightweight dayboat that emphasizes quiet operation, refined aesthetics and practical on-water performance.

The Hood 26E measures 26 feet, 3 inches overall with an 8-foot, 6-inch beam. Its modified deep-V hull is constructed from carbon fiber, a choice that yields a strong, stiff structure while keeping displacement low. Carbon fiber construction contributes to responsive handling and efficiency, as well as a high-quality finish that complements traditional styling elements. The helm area features an elegant teak console that elevates the visual appeal, while the dash layout includes ample space for optional navigation and electronics suites to suit owners who want modern instrumentation.

Deck and cockpit arrangements are focused on both comfort and utility. The boat comes standard with a leaning post that includes integrated storage and a full-width aft bench that offers social seating and easy movement on deck. Owners who prefer additional lounging space can opt for forward seating in the bow, creating flexible plans for day use, short cruises, or waterside entertaining. The overall layout reflects C.W. Hood’s custom approach: practical, clean lines with configurable options to match an owner’s priorities.

Propulsion is provided by twin LTS electric 120-kW motors paired with a Konrad 560 sterndrive and a dual-prop arrangement. This setup delivers strong thrust and efficient transfer of power to the water, producing a manufacturer-stated top speed of 41 knots. In typical mixed-use conditions, the 26E is capable of a 30-nautical-mile range at a cruise speed of 21.7 knots. Reducing speed to a more economical 5.2 knots extends the theoretical range to about 50 nautical miles, demonstrating how speed management directly affects electric range.

A notable characteristic of the 26E is its quiet operation. Electric propulsion eliminates much of the noise and vibration associated with combustion engines, making for a calmer experience on the water—particularly appreciated in busy harbors or when underway at lower speeds. The quiet running combined with a refined helm environment underlines the boat’s appeal for owners who prioritize comfort and a more relaxed boating experience.

Energy storage comes from two standard 67.5-kWh lithium-ion battery packs. The dual-battery configuration not only supports the power demands of the twin motors but also offers practical benefits for charging logistics: using two packs reduces the zero-to-full charge time from approximately ten hours to about five hours under suitable charging conditions. This split-battery approach also offers redundancy and flexibility for owners who plan to operate in areas with varying shore-power availability.

The Hood 26E joins C.W. Hood’s existing lineup of custom boats that range from 26 to 57 feet, underscoring the yard’s capability to tailor builds to individual owners. Chris Hood’s comment, “If the owner wishes, we can build it,” highlights the company’s custom-build philosophy and willingness to incorporate specific options or finishes according to owner preferences. That flexibility allows buyers to prioritize performance, luxury appointments, or utility features as they see fit.

With the Hood 26E Runabout, C.W. Hood Yachts has introduced an electric dayboat that marries modern propulsion technology with the craftsmanship and aesthetic cues typical of New England design. The combination of carbon fiber construction, robust electric powertrain, and thoughtful cockpit ergonomics positions the 26E as an attractive option for owners seeking a quiet, efficient, and stylish small runabout for coastal cruising, island hopping, or days on the water.
