Grand Banks 62: New Long-Distance Cruising Yacht from Grand Banks
Grand Banks, the world-renowned yacht builder, has expanded its cruising lineup with the new Grand Banks 62 (GB62). Designed by Grand Banks Yachts CEO Mark Richards, the GB62 builds on the success of the GB60 introduced in 2017 and is tailored for owners who prioritize long-range capability, comfort and classic Grand Banks seaworthiness.

Hull and Construction: V-Warp Technology
The GB62 features Grand Banks’ V-Warp hull technology, characterized by a fine 6-degree entry and minimal deadrise at the transom. This hull form reduces resistance through waves at displacement and semi-displacement speeds, aiding fuel efficiency and improving ride comfort in a variety of sea conditions. The hull is infused and built using E-Glass combined with a carefully controlled resin ratio to reduce weight while maintaining structural integrity and corrosion-resistant performance. These construction choices contribute to improved speed potential and extended cruising range without compromising durability.
Layout and Interior: Comfortable Long-Range Living
Interior planning on the Grand Banks 62 emphasizes natural light, sightlines and live-aboard functionality. Large opening windows on the main deck, salon, helm and aft galley provide excellent visibility and a strong connection between interior spaces and the surrounding seascape. The owner’s stateroom is located amidships and offers a king-sized bed with an en suite head and separate shower, providing privacy and stable motion underway.
Forward, the VIP stateroom has its own private head, while the starboard guest cabin is arranged athwartships with a double and a single berth and a dedicated en suite head. Practical touches for extended cruising include a standard utility area that houses a washer/dryer system, helping to support comfortable, self-sustained life aboard during longer passages.
Skylounge Option and Deck Features
A Skylounge model will be offered for owners who want a dedicated elevated living space with expanded indoor entertaining options. The design of the GB62 also includes an extended bridge overhang that creates an integrated storage area capable of housing a standard AB inflatable RIB, keeping tender stowage convenient and secure while maintaining clean deck lines.

Power, Performance and Range
Standard propulsion for the GB62 consists of twin 900-hp Volvo Penta D13 engines paired with Twin Disc MGX 5096A marine transmissions. Buyers can choose optional power packages, including twin 1,000-hp Volvo D13 engines or Volvo IPS 1200 pod drives, each IPS unit rated at 900 hp. Engine selection and propulsion configuration will directly influence top speed and fuel consumption.
According to the builder, a GB62 equipped with the standard 900-hp D13 engines will reach top speeds in the 30-knot range. For economical long-distance cruising, the builder cites a range of approximately 2,000 nautical miles at a steady 10-knot cruise when fitted with standard propulsion—highlighting the model’s suitability for extended passages and ocean-crossing capability.
Who the GB62 Is For
The Grand Banks 62 is aimed at owners who seek a capable long-range cruiser with the brand’s hallmark combination of classic lines, comfortable live-aboard accommodations and contemporary engineering. Its mix of efficient hull design, practical interior layout and multiple propulsion choices makes it an attractive option for private owners and experienced cruisers planning serious coastal or offshore voyaging.
