Valhalla Boatworks, the center-console division of Viking Yachts, has rapidly established itself as a disruptive force in the offshore sportfishing and luxury center-console market since launching its V Series in 2019. The original lineup—the V-33, V-37 and V-41—announced the brand’s intent, and the subsequent introduction of the V-46 reinforced Valhalla’s reputation for combining performance, comfort and build-quality. Now the company has taken another major step forward with the announcement of the Valhalla 55 (V-55), a full-size center console designed to blend the utility of a large offshore fishing boat with the appointments and construction standards of a luxury sportfishing yacht.
Pat Healey, President and CEO of Viking Yachts, described the new model as a category-defining vessel when he unveiled it during the Viking Yachts & Valhalla Boatworks VIP Boat Show on January 4. According to Healey, the V-55 “sets a new standard by bringing together the qualities of a large center console and a luxury sportfishing yacht.” That positioning is reflected in the V-55’s dimensions, systems and layout, which prioritize range, comfort and fishability without compromising ride performance.
Measuring with a notably generous 15 feet, 6 inches of beam, the Valhalla 55 promises more cockpit area, seating and interior volume than any other model in Valhalla’s center-console range. Fuel capacity is substantial at 1,200 gallons, supporting extended runs and long days offshore. Propulsion options include four or five Mercury 7.6-liter V12 Verado outboards rated at 600 horsepower each, giving the boat the thrust needed to maximize speed, top-end performance and load-carrying capability for serious offshore use.
Underpinning the V-55’s performance is the patented Stepped-V Ventilated Tunnel hull developed by Michael Peters Yacht Design. That hull form is intended to deliver confident handling, predictable steering and improved helm visibility, translating to easier maneuvering in tight conditions and better control when running offshore. Valhalla says the V-55 is also the largest resin-infused center console of its type, built using a hybrid fabric schedule that combines carbon fiber and E-glass with resin infusion techniques similar to those used in Viking sportfisher construction to optimize stiffness, weight and strength.
The cockpit layout on the V-55 follows a convertible-style approach that is clearly focused on angling and onboard socializing. Standard features include dual 65-gallon livewells for bait management, flip-down transom seats for additional passenger comfort, and twin insulated fishboxes situated to each side of the Seakeeper access hatch and lazarette. Under the hardtop, nine forward-facing chairs increase passenger capacity and comfort during transit, and owners can specify either a custom Palm Beach Towers gap tower or a fold-down marlin tower with a removable sunshade to suit fishing and offshore sighting needs.
Below deck, the V-55 offers accommodations that go beyond what is typical for most center consoles. The main cabin provides 6 feet, 10 inches of headroom and an interior layout designed for extended trips or weekend comfort. A galley is arranged to starboard, while an L-shaped settee to port includes a drop-down dinette that converts into an additional bunk. Forward of the salon is a private stateroom with a walk-around queen berth, an ensuite head and a separate enclosed shower, giving owners and guests a comfortable, private environment after a long day on the water.
Valhalla has positioned the V-55 as a versatile platform that appeals to serious anglers who want the amenities and build quality of a sportfishing yacht, as well as to cruising families looking for range and onboard comfort. Construction on hull number one was scheduled to begin this summer, and the company announced plans for the V-55 to make its world debut at the 2022 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. With its combination of large fuel capacity, multiple outboard power options, high-capacity livewells and elevated interior accommodations, the Valhalla 55 aims to join the ranks of the largest and most capable center consoles available today.
