Aquila 32S: Updated Sport Power Catamaran Focused on Performance and Social Boating

Aquila, a builder known for performance-oriented power catamarans, has introduced a refreshed version of the smallest model in its five-boat lineup: the Aquila 32S. The “S” denotes sport, and the 32S continues Aquila’s emphasis on combining quick, stable hulls with comfortable, social deck layouts. As one of two outboard-powered models in the series—the other being the Aquila 36—the 32S targets dayboaters and weekend cruisers who want a lively, versatile platform that still accommodates occasional overnighting.

Power choices reflect the model’s sporty intent. The 32S comes standard with twin 225-hp Mercury FourStroke outboards and offers optional twin 300-hp Mercury Verados. Mercury’s Joystick Piloting System is available as an option to simplify close-quarters handling. The boat carries a substantial 280 gallons of fuel, supporting extended cruising or higher-speed runs; however, specific performance figures were not available at the time of release.

The refreshed 32S features a number of refinements over its predecessor designed to enhance comfort, acoustics and handling. The wraparound transom of the earlier model has been removed, and both the hull length and waterline length have been increased to help improve performance and efficiency through the water. Relocating the outboards farther aft has the dual benefit of quieter helm sound levels and improved propeller immersion. The fiberglass hardtop has also been redesigned to create cleaner, sportier lines while retaining functional protection from sun and spray.

On deck, the Aquila 32S blends elements of dayboat and dual-console designs to prioritize sociability and relaxation. The forward area is a roomy bow lounge with twin chaise lounges, fold-up armrests, numerous cupholders and stereo speakers. A quick-deploy sunshade with support poles can be set up to shelter the forward lounge from direct sun. The wraparound windshield opens into an airy cockpit anchored by a two-person helm bench and companion seating to port. Ahead of the port-side seat, a compact yet well-equipped console includes a sink with freshwater mixer, an electric grill and a stainless-steel refrigerator—features that make onboard meal preparation convenient and comfortable.

Aft of the companion seating, a dinette provides the primary dining and lounging area under the protection of the reworked fiberglass hardtop, which includes sliding hatches for ventilation and light. Additional seating is provided by a pair of transom benches, enabling flexible arrangements for passengers and guests. The overall cockpit plan has been rearranged from the previous model to open traffic flow and create a more expansive, social environment.

Although the 32S is positioned as a sport-focused dayboat, Aquila has retained belowdecks accommodations suitable for weekend cruising or short overnight trips. The port hull contains a cabin with a double berth, hullside glass with an opening port, an overhead hatch and storage cabinetry. The starboard hull houses a wet head, which also benefits from hullside glass to enhance ventilation and natural light. These accommodations add versatility for owners who want both lively dayboat performance and modest cruising comforts.

Construction uses composite materials, vinylester resin and multi-directional fiberglass cloth. Aquila employs a vacuum-assisted infusion process called Infusi-Core: laminates and coring are infused with resin under vacuum to achieve an accurate resin-to-fiber ratio, producing a lightweight yet robust hull and deck structure. This method contributes to durability while helping the 32S maintain the performance characteristics expected of a sport-oriented catamaran.

In summary, the updated Aquila 32S refines the compact sport-cat formula with longer hull lines, improved outboard placement, a sleeker hardtop and a more open cockpit layout geared toward entertaining and relaxed cruising. With practical galley features, comfortable forward and aft lounges, and usable belowdecks accommodations, the 32S appeals to dayboaters, weekend cruisers and anyone seeking a compact, capable platform for social boating and short-range exploration.
