Wellcraft 262 Fisherman: New Flagship Center Console Blends Fishing Heritage with Day-Boat Comfort
Wellcraft’s latest flagship center console, the 262 Fisherman, expands on the company’s popular 252 model with two extra feet of overall length. Measuring 26 feet 4 inches LOA with a 9-foot beam, the 262 is a noticeably larger, more versatile platform while retaining the brand’s proven hull design. Christophe Lavigne, Wellcraft’s vice president of engineering, describes it as “a completely different boat” in layout and capability, even as it preserves the salty, fishing-forward character that owners expect.

Under the waterline the 262 keeps the modified-vee hull that has served Wellcraft well since the early 2000s. That established hull form delivers predictable behavior in a range of conditions, so the builder chose to retain it rather than redesign the bottom. The result is a boat that combines confident handling for anglers with a ride and stability suited to family day boating.
Layout and equipment on the 262 reflect a deliberate mix of fishing capability and day-cruise convenience. Cockpit corners house live wells for bait or catch, and the cockpit sole includes two fishboxes, each equipped with a macerator pump for easy draining and fish-care. Forward of the console a multi-function seat/cooler sits on recessed tracks: it slides forward to form a sunpad and gives clearance for the head’s swing-up door. This practical arrangement maximizes usable space and allows quick changes between fishing mode and comfortable lounging.
Wellcraft offers several factory packages to tailor the 262 Fisherman to buyer priorities. A family package emphasizes extra seating and a bow table for meals and socializing. The Seaside package upgrades the leaning post with a padded backrest, additional rod holders and dedicated cooler stowage, and it swaps in a beige cockpit interior for a lighter, more relaxed aesthetic. For owners who want a sportier appearance and premium appointments, the Scarab Offshore trim package applies bold hull graphics and a tricolor gelcoat, and enhances helm and cockpit finishes.
Power options for the 262 are flexible. The boat can be specified with a single 300-horsepower outboard or with twin engines in 150-, 200- or 250-hp configurations. Wellcraft supports major outboard brands including Mercury, Yamaha and Evinrude, giving owners a choice of propulsion systems and dealer networks. With twin 250-hp Mercury Verados, the 262 has a reported top speed of 58 mph and a comfortable cruise range between 30 and 40 mph, providing spirited performance for offshore runs while remaining efficient for day trips.
Pricing varies with propulsion and options. Base pricing with twin 250 Verados was listed at $130,323, with twin 250 Evinrude E-TEC G2 two-strokes at $132,692, and twin Yamaha F250s at $135,654. These figures reflect a well-equipped center console positioned to serve both dedicated anglers and families seeking a capable, versatile coastal boat.
Designed to bridge the gap between hardcore fishing boats and family day cruisers, the Wellcraft 262 Fisherman keeps the brand’s fishing DNA while offering thoughtful amenities for comfort and convenience. Its combination of a tried-and-true modified-vee hull, flexible seating and storage arrangements, and multiple trim and power choices make it a compelling option for buyers who want a center console that can handle serious fishing chores yet remain welcoming for friends and family.
