McCollough Yachts of Newport, Rhode Island, has introduced the Hope 40, a 43-foot power catamaran that pairs classic New England styling with modern hydrofoil technology. The design aims to deliver a smoother, more efficient ride while preserving an elegant, familiar aesthetic rather than the futuristic appearance common to many foil-assisted vessels.
At 43 feet overall, the Hope 40 is built around a foil-assisted concept that lifts the hulls partially out of the water at speed, reducing drag and improving ride comfort. Recognizing that a fixed foil between hulls can be a drawback in some sea conditions, McCollough fitted the Hope 40 with a fully retractable center foil, allowing owners to choose foil-assisted mode when conditions suit and to retract it when not needed.
The yacht can be configured with two different propulsion packages to match owner preferences: either twin 600-hp Mercury outboard engines or twin 550-hp Yanmar inboard diesel engines coupled with Hamilton Jet drives. Both options are intended to deliver the performance characteristics expected of a modern power catamaran while offering choices between outboard and inboard propulsion systems.

The Hope 40 has a generous 16.5-foot beam, which translates into a spacious main deck well suited to entertaining guests and accommodating family cruising. The main deck layout emphasizes social space and flow, while belowdecks the layout prioritizes comfortable overnight accommodations. There are two staterooms and two heads, with one head featuring a separate shower, offering privacy and convenience for extended trips.
McCollough Yachts says the Hope 40 represents a response to customer requests for a vessel that combines the smooth ride and efficiency benefits of a foil-assisted catamaran with a more traditional and attractive styling. Rather than follow the trend toward angular, highly futuristic exteriors, the Hope 40 retains classic lines that blend with coastal traditions while integrating modern marine technology.
Construction of the Hope 40 will be undertaken by Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine, a shipbuilder known for custom and semi-custom projects along the New England coast. Partnering with an experienced yard allows McCollough to bring the design concepts into production with attention to craftsmanship and systems integration.
From a practical standpoint, the retractable foil provides owners with operational flexibility: when sea conditions and speeds favor foiling, the vessel can achieve reduced hull resistance and a steadier ride; when conditions are less suitable or when operating in shallow waters, the foil can be retracted to protect it from damage and to simplify handling. This adaptability is particularly valuable for owners who cruise varied coastal waters where conditions can change rapidly.
The combination of a roomy deck plan, two private staterooms and heads, and a high-beam layout makes the Hope 40 appropriate for day trips, weekend cruising, or extended coastal passages with a small crew or family. Buyers choosing the Mercury outboard package will get the advantages associated with modern high-power outboards, while those preferring diesel propulsion and jet drive handling will find the Yanmar/Hamilton Jet option appealing.
With its emphasis on blending established New England design cues and contemporary foil technology, the Hope 40 aims to appeal to owners who want modern performance without abandoning traditional styling. The retractable foil, dual engine options, and a focus on comfortable accommodation underscore a balanced approach that values both form and function.
