Aegis Jacket: Protective Outerwear for Men and Women

Atlantis WeatherGear Debuts Aegis: Performance Outerwear for Coastal Sailing

Atlantis WeatherGear has launched Aegis, a purpose-built line of protective outerwear designed for coastal sailing. The collection includes a technical jacket, a spray top, and a hybrid bib, each engineered to perform in the variable conditions encountered on nearshore and coastal passages. Built for sailors and developed with input from active users, Aegis focuses on lightweight protection, comfort, and practical features for life on deck.

The centerpiece of the collection is the sailing jacket that helped relaunch the Atlantis brand. All garments in the Aegis line use Atlantis’ proprietary Typhoon fabric, a triple-layer laminate engineered to deliver a balance of low bulk and reliable barrier performance. According to the company, Typhoon provides strong protection against wind and spray while prioritizing moisture management and comfort, and it carries industry-leading waterproof and breathability ratings.

That combination of a light hand and durable protection makes the Aegis pieces well suited to active sailing, where unrestricted movement and layered insulation are important. The reduced bulk of the laminate allows sailors to layer a warm midlayer beneath the shell without feeling constrained, and the fabric’s moisture-management properties help move perspiration away from the body during strenuous maneuvers.

Design and engineering of the Aegis collection were carried out in collaboration with Tool Inc., an industrial design firm recognized for its work across action-sports and performance brands. Tool’s involvement helped refine fit, ergonomics, and functional details—such as articulated sleeves, storm flaps, and strategically placed pockets—so the garments perform when you need them most and remain comfortable during long days on the water.

Product-wise, the Aegis spray top is positioned as a versatile, mid-weight layer built for high-exposure moments and quick-don protection against spray and wind; its suggested retail price is $195. The hybrid bib and full jacket are each listed at $295, offering additional coverage and features tailored to more strenuous coastal and nearshore conditions. Together, the three items provide a flexible set of options for sailors who want a coordinated system that can be mixed, matched, and layered according to conditions.

Beyond the core fabric technology, Atlantis focused on practical details that matter on a boat: low-profile closures to avoid snagging, reinforced high-wear zones, adjustable hems and cuffs to keep spray out, and hood systems designed to maintain peripheral vision while offering protection. These considerations are intended to make the Aegis line reliable for everything from day sailing and club racing to coastal cruising in changeable weather.

Care and longevity were considered as well. The triple-layer laminate construction helps reduce the need for heavy treatments while making the garments easier to clean and maintain compared with some heavier, coated-shell alternatives. Proper care—rinsing off salt and following manufacturer care instructions—will keep the pieces performing season after season.
