Regulator 28: Practical Design, Solid Construction, and Fishing-Focused Features
Regulator now builds larger, full-coverage T-tops across its center-console line as anglers become more conscious of long-term sun exposure and skin damage. On the 28, the T-top stretches to the gunwales and fully covers the leaning post and the forward console seat, providing generous shaded space for the captain and crew. To keep weight down without sacrificing strength, the builder cores the hardtop with composite foam and uses a vacuum-bagged resin-infusion process for a stiff, lightweight structure. Lee outriggers are integrated into the hardtop and use built-in levers beneath the top so anglers can adjust them quickly and securely while underway.

Storage and lighting are tailored to early mornings and long days on the water. The overhead electronics box is large enough to accommodate two VHF radios and stays open with friction hinges for easy access. Multiple circular LED overhead lights illuminate the helm area for pre-dawn departures, while flush-mounted spreader lights light the cockpit and the water off the transom when you need visibility for fishing or docking after dark. Overall, the layout balances visibility, convenience and weather protection.
The bow area of the Regulator 28 is purposefully versatile to support fishing, docking and casual cruising. Three insulated compartments — port, starboard and centerline — can be used as fishboxes or converted to dry storage, depending on the day’s needs. The centerline locker in the foredeck accommodates three 6-foot rods for secure, out-of-the-way storage. All lockers are lockable for safety and security, and the forward locker is commonly used for a ditch bag and a throwable PFD. Stainless air shocks on the locker lids allow them to open wide for full access, and the powder-coated handrail is recessed to keep the casting area unobstructed. The compartment tops accept optional pads for seating, and the forward deck can accept a removable table to convert the space into a comfortable dinette or a raised casting platform.

The leaning post and tackle center remain compact and streamlined while delivering numerous practical features for serious anglers. Rocket launcher rod holders are centered for quick access, and a sturdy handrail beneath them provides a secure grab point when the boat is running at speed. The lower portion of the leaning post holds eight tackle boxes for organized lure and rig storage, and a port-side drawer provides a handy place for gloves, tools and smaller items; a dedicated knife block is integrated into the tackle center. Small comforts are considered, too: there are five cup holders within easy reach, and the deck is finished with raised diamond nonskid that offers traction underfoot while remaining comfortable for bare feet during long days on deck.
