Fjord Yachts Introduces the 39XL and 39XP: Compact Powerboats Designed by Patrick Benfield
German builder Fjord Yachts, part of the HanseYachts group, has unveiled two new additions to its line-up: the Fjord 39XL and the Fjord 39XP. Both models are the result of a collaboration with naval architect Patrick Benfield and continue Fjord’s focus on a blend of powerful performance, contemporary design and practical comfort in a compact package.

At 39 feet overall and with a beam of 12 feet 8 inches, the 39XL and 39XP share the same hull and layout, differing primarily in their propulsion choices. The 39XL is offered with twin Volvo Penta D4 320-hp engines or the higher-output twin Volvo Penta D6 440-hp option, while the 39XP comes with twin Mercury Verado V10 400-hp outboards. Both powertrain options are paired with joystick steering systems, enhancing low-speed handling, tight-area maneuvering and docking control for owners of varying experience levels.
The exterior layout emphasizes a large, open cockpit designed for social cruising and flexible use. Seating is arranged around two removable tables; lowering those tables converts the area into an expansive sunbathing platform. A dedicated foredeck sun lounger provides an additional private sun pad and is accessible via full walkaround decks, allowing safe movement forward while underway. A substantial T-top stretches over the cockpit to offer shade and protection from the elements while maintaining the boat’s open, airy feel.
The helm station reflects Fjord’s focus on clean ergonomics and functionality. Both the 39XL and 39XP place twin captain’s chairs to starboard, with practical storage aft of the helm, allowing for a tidy operational area and convenient access to essentials. Owners can specify a partial galley on the main deck, with the option for up to three refrigerators—useful for extended day trips, entertaining or light overnight stays.
Below deck the 39-series continues to make efficient use of space. The accommodation package includes a double-berth cabin with integrated storage drawers and a thoughtfully arranged head with a separate shower compartment to starboard. The interior layout focuses on creating a comfortable overnight environment without compromising the boat’s primary role as a high-performance day cruiser.
“The FJORD 39 is the logical new development of our entry-level model in the unique FJORD class,” said Andrea Zambonini, Fjord Product Manager. “It offers everything that characterizes the core of these iconic yachts. Power, design and comfort—fully thought through and high quality.” The statement underlines Fjord’s intent to package premium design and strong performance into a size that appeals to a wide spectrum of owners.
Pricing is positioned to reflect the inclusion of propulsion in the base configuration: the 39XL starts at $498,320 including engines, while the 39XP has a base price of $526,495 with its outboard package. These figures establish the models as well-equipped, ready-to-cruise options for buyers seeking a compact yacht that prioritizes style, power and liveability.
In summary, the Fjord 39XL and 39XP represent a practical, performance-oriented approach to modern dayboating. With designer Patrick Benfield’s lines, multiple engine choices from Volvo Penta and Mercury, joystick-assisted maneuverability, and flexible on-deck and below-deck arrangements, the new 39 models aim to deliver an accessible entry point into Fjord’s distinctive blend of sporty aesthetics and usable comfort.
