Sea Ray Debuts Two Models by All-Women Design Team

Sea Ray Unveils SLX 260 and SLX 260 Outboard with Fresh Styling and Modern Features

Sea Ray has expanded its premium SLX lineup with two new additions: the SLX 260 and the SLX 260 Outboard. Both models adopt updated design language first introduced on the Sundancer 370 Outboard in 2021, including an S-sheer profile, a pronounced center crease and an elongated bow. These elements combine to create a more refined, contemporary silhouette for the SLX family while preserving the model line’s focus on comfort and on-water performance.

Powertrain and Helm Technology

The SLX 260 offers sterndrive propulsion via a Mercury MerCruiser 6.2L MPI ECT Bravo Three engine equipped with SmartCraft Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS). The SLX 260 Outboard variant is powered by a Mercury 300 Verado outboard, also featuring SmartCraft DTS. Both configurations include modern helm electronics: Dual Digital Dash displays with 9-inch Simrad touchscreens provide system integration and clear instrumentation, while Mercury VesselView Mobile support delivers engine data to onboard displays and compatible devices. Additional helm aids include Active Trim control and monitoring plus CZone digital switching for streamlined systems management.

Optional Performance and Handling Enhancements

Sea Ray offers its patented Dynamic Running Surface as an optional upgrade for both the sterndrive and outboard versions. This system is designed to automatically optimize the boat’s running attitude and trim to improve ride quality and responsiveness across a range of conditions. When paired with the standard power and control systems, the Dynamic Running Surface aims to enhance overall drivability for operators of varying experience levels.

Comfort, Seating and Storage

The SLX 260 line emphasizes passenger comfort and versatile onboard living. Cockpit seating has been deepened for enhanced comfort, and the layout includes an L-shaped bench that creates a sociable, lounge-like environment. The bow features expansive, lounge-style seating while the transom area benefits from an enlarged sunpad. Sea Ray has integrated multiple storage solutions throughout the boat, including a dedicated cooler or dry storage compartment beneath the sunpad and a transom locker for easy access to gear and lines.

For owners who want shade and convenience, a Power Tower is available as an option. This electrically actuated tower deploys an extended sunshade at the push of a button, offering quick protection from sun and light weather while maintaining the boat’s clean profile when stowed.

Design Team and Significance

Notably, the SLX 260 and SLX 260 Outboard represent the first Sea Ray models developed by an all-women design team. The project was led by Sea Ray Senior Design Manager Carrie Fodor and Brunswick Boat Group Senior Industrial Designer Kristin McGinnis. Fodor, who has been with Sea Ray since 2008 and grew up boating on the Great Lakes, combined her lifelong interest in drawing and boating to guide the SLX 260’s design. McGinnis, a member of Brunswick’s design engineering team since 2016, brought her background in drawing and an appreciation for automotive-inspired detailing to the project.

Reflecting on the project, Fodor said the SLX 260 has been “a long time in the making” and expressed enthusiasm about sharing the new model. She noted the importance of representation, saying the project serves as proof that careers in marine design are attainable for women and minorities who might not have considered the field. McGinnis added that she was surprised to discover the strong connections between boat and automotive design and emphasized the immediate impact designers can make in the marine industry.

Summary

With refreshed styling, contemporary helm electronics, practical creature comforts and the option of Sea Ray’s Dynamic Running Surface, the SLX 260 and SLX 260 Outboard aim to broaden the appeal of the SLX line to buyers seeking a modern, comfortable dayboat. The models also mark an important milestone in Sea Ray’s design history, highlighting the contributions of women designers in shaping the future of recreational boating.
