Twin Vee Unveils New Hydrofoil Catamaran

Twin Vee Introduces 35-Foot Hydrofoil Supported Ocean Cat

Twin Vee Catamarans has launched a 35-foot hydrofoil catamaran engineered specifically for rough water performance, offering a fast, smooth and efficient ride, according to Roger Dunshee, CEO of the Fort Pierce, Florida-based company. Built from the ground up as a hydrofoil design rather than adapted from an existing hull, this model emphasizes improved seakeeping, reduced drag and better fuel economy compared with conventional performance cats of similar size.

Purpose-Built Hydrofoil Design

Designed by Gunther Hoppe of South Africa, the Hydrofoil Supported Ocean Cat features a distinctive T-shaped hydrofoil that extends from the tunnel amidships and attaches to the inboard side of each sponson. This arrangement produces lift more efficiently than relying on hull planing surfaces alone, reducing hull immersion at speed and smoothing the ride through chop. Additional smaller hydrofoils located in the tunnel forward of the transom help dampen pitching motion, further stabilizing the platform and improving comfort for passengers and crew in a wide range of sea conditions.

Performance and Efficiency

Power comes from a twin outboard setup using Suzuki DF300 engines, which balance strong performance with fuel efficiency. At a cruising pace in the low 40-mph range the catamaran returns approximately 2 miles per gallon, and it is capable of reaching a top speed of 57 mph with throttles wide open. Dunshee points out that many boats of comparable length typically require three or four outboard engines to achieve similar performance, whereas this hydrofoil cat achieves high speeds and range with only two engines, translating into significant fuel savings and lower ongoing operating costs.

Standard Equipment and Onboard Features

The base configuration, priced at $213,260 with counter-rotating Suzuki engines, comes well equipped for both fishing and dayboat use. Standard gear includes a fiberglass T-top fitted with rod holders, a dedicated fishing station with a 50-gallon bait well, and an enclosed head located in the console. The layout and systems reflect the model’s dual mission as a capable offshore fishing platform and comfortable dayboating vessel.

Market Reception and Availability

Twin Vee has sold and delivered four examples of the hydrofoil-supported model to date. The company planned to showcase the boat at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, scheduled for October 25–29 in the year the boat was introduced. Why a Hydrofoil Catamaran?

Hydrofoil-assisted catamarans combine the inherent stability and shallow-draft advantages of a twin-hull platform with the performance benefits of lifting surfaces. By producing lift through the foil system, the boat rides higher in the water at speed, which reduces slamming and hull resistance. The result is a more comfortable ride in rough conditions, lower engine loads for a given speed, and improved fuel efficiency—elements that appeal to anglers, dayboaters and operators who regularly run in choppy or offshore waters.

Because this Twin Vee model was conceived from the outset as a hydrofoil-supported catamaran, structural integration and foil placement were engineered to work with the tunnel and sponson geometry rather than being retrofitted. That design approach helps ensure reliable performance, predictable handling and longevity of the foil system under operational loads.
