Axis Wake Research Launches Limited Recon Edition Boat to Honor U.S. Armed Forces

Axis Wake Research has introduced a limited-run Recon edition boat designed as a tribute to members of the U.S. armed forces. The special edition celebrates service and sacrifice while donating part of the proceeds to support veterans through Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors.
Inspired by Keith Lyman’s Decision to Serve
The Recon edition was inspired by team rider Keith Lyman, who stepped away from a successful professional wakeboarding career to join the U.S. Army. Lyman retired from a decade-long competitive career at age 27 and chose military service after long admiring members of the armed forces. Axis says his decision motivated the company to create a boat that recognizes Lyman and all service members.
Recon Package Details for A20 and A22 Models
In 2013, Axis plans to offer the Recon package on its A20 and A22 models. The Recon treatment includes a digital camouflage graphic and accent vinyl, a distinctive Recon gelcoat scheme, and a charcoal-colored tower. Interior and finishing touches are branded to match the theme, with a coordinated steering wheel, swim pad and carpet that reflect the edition’s respectful, military-inspired aesthetic.
Giving Back: Support for Homes for Wounded Warriors
A portion of the proceeds from each Recon edition boat will be donated directly to Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors, a charity focused on providing housing and support for wounded veterans. Axis designed the program both to honor active-duty service members and to provide tangible support to veterans and their families through this partnership.
Company Statement and Commitment to the Military Community
Adam McCall, vice president of product at Malibu Boats, emphasized the company’s long-standing support for military personnel. He explained that the Recon edition was a meaningful way to acknowledge troops who “defend our freedom on a daily basis.” McCall added that Axis and Malibu have supported those who serve throughout their combined history and will continue to do so through special projects like the Recon edition.
McCall also noted that many soldiers are attracted to Axis for its styling, simplicity and competitive price, and that the Recon package was a natural extension of Axis’s desire to give back to the military community.
Debut and Availability
The Recon edition was scheduled to make its debut September 6–8 at Surf Expo in Orlando, Florida. Axis planned to showcase the A20 and A22 Recon models there, providing an early look at the camouflage design and branded interior features for customers and media.
About Axis and Malibu Boats
Axis is a brand of Malibu Boats, a privately held company with roughly 450 employees and manufacturing facilities located in California, Tennessee and Australia. Axis focuses on creating value-driven wake boats that balance performance, style and affordability, and the Recon edition is a limited, purpose-driven model intended to recognize and support members of the armed forces.
Why the Recon Edition Matters
The Recon edition combines design, purpose and philanthropy. By offering a military-inspired aesthetic and directing a portion of sales to a veterans’ housing charity, Axis aims to honor personal sacrifice while contributing to practical veteran support. The limited nature of the Recon edition also provides buyers with a distinctive, themed option that reflects respect for the military community.
As Axis brings the Recon edition to market, the company hopes the model will not only appeal to wake sports enthusiasts but also serve as a visible symbol of appreciation for service members and veterans.
